The Hunchback of Notre Dame

Directed by Adam Othman, Music Direction by Shawna Avinger, Choreography by Molly Hall

December 5–21, 2025

Pay-What-You-Can Preview Night: Dec 4

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and featuring the soaring music of Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast), this epic musical tells the powerful story of Quasimodo, the bell-ringer of Notre Dame Cathedral. Isolated from society but longing for connection, he finds courage and love in the face of prejudice and fear. With unforgettable characters, stunning choral music, and breathtaking theatricality, this production resonates with the timeless themes of identity, compassion, and the price of justice.

  • While the stage musical is adapted from the beloved Disney film and includes all the songs from the animated movie, this adaptation more closely follows the Victor Hugo class novel including a darker ending than the animated film. There are some themes that parents are guardians may decide are not suited for younger children.

    Those themes include the following:

    • Religious themes and brief on-stage references to sin, damnation, and church authority

    • Romantic tension, including moments of unwanted physical attention and discussion of lust

    • Violence and peril, including depictions of mob action, attempted assault, and implied death by fire

    • Use of stage fog/haze, loud sound effects, and flashing lights

    • BPA strives to present a broad array of productions with many kinds of messages and staying true to the stories we present. However, we also believe in ensuring our patrons feel informed and comfortable when attending our events.
