Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra Presents: East of the Sun, West of the Moon

May 28 - 30, 2027

The Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra closes its season with East of the Sun, West of the Moon, a program inspired by myth, imagination, and the pull of distant horizons. The evening opens with the West Coast premiere of East of the Sun, West of the Moon by rising composer Leigha Amick, a work that draws on the timeless Norwegian folktale of the same name to create a sound world both evocative and luminous. Jean Sibelius’s En Saga follows, a tone poem unfolding without words—mysterious, searching, and filled with the vast stillness of Nordic landscapes. The concert culminates in Richard Strauss’s epic masterpiece Don Quixote, a richly imaginative set of variations that brings Cervantes’ beloved dreamer to life. Superstar cellist Nathan Chan takes center stage as the errant knight, in a performance that is by turns heroic, humorous, and deeply human.

Program:

Leigha Amick: East of the Sun, West of the Moon

Jean Sibelius: En Saga
