BPA is Seeking a New Music Director & Conductor

Bainbridge Performing Arts (dba Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra) is presently seeking a Music Director & Conductor. The successful candidate for this part-time contract position will help rebuild and lead a thriving volunteer community orchestra and report to the BPA Executive Director. Generally, the BSO concerts and rehearsals will be held at the new Buxton Center for Bainbridge Performing Arts on Bainbridge Island. Finalists will be invited to conduct a program in our 2023-24 season and the new Music Director’s tenure will begin with the 2024-25 season.

The Music Director will strengthen the voluntary culture of the BSO by working with the BSO Committee, direct service volunteers, BPA Board and Staff, and other volunteer committees on special projects designed to assist the BSO. The Music Director is responsible for developing the program for each concert set with the approval of the BSO Committee. Programming will be consistent with the skills and interests of the BSO members. It will take into account the musical interests of the community at large and work to stimulate interest in classical music on Bainbridge Island. Successful candidates will already have strong ties in the greater-Seattle orchestral music community and be willing to travel to Bainbridge Island weekly on Wednesday evenings for rehearsals; local candidates and those with diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply!

Music has always been at the heart of the BPA mission, and the organization’s commitment stands undiminished to this day. The BSO, founded in 1972, has the backing of a well-organized Board and a thriving institution. It takes a lively community of volunteer musicians and listeners to make such a commitment sustainable, and BPA thanks the BSO musicians and audience members for their part in keeping the classical music program lively and growing.
