BPA Gallery March First Friday Art Walk: “Everyone Has a Name”

BPA Gallery First Friday Art Walk: “Everyone Has a Name”
“Sweet Land of Liberty” by The Domestic (Terrorism) Arts Group
First Friday Art Walk Reception March 1 @ 5:00- 7:00 p.m.
Exhibit Continues Throughout March at Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA)

Join us in the BPA Gallery March 1 for an artist reception and an enjoyable evening of art and friends. Naomi Spinak’s “Everyone Has a Name” features four fiber works. The central piece of the show is an American flag piece entitled “Sweet Land of Liberty” that has guns instead of stars and is a memorial to the many people killed by guns in mass shootings since Columbine. The names and dates are embroidered by hand by many volunteers including the artist. Each gun depicted also has an English phrase on it, which is connected to arms use, such as ”Sweating Bullets” and “Riding Shotgun.” The show is Naomi’s personal commentary on the state of guns in our country. “Quilts are my primary medium as a fiber artist, and I feel compelled to comment on our culture and our values through my work.”

The BPA Gallery showcases regional artists in monthly rotating exhibits in the C. Keith Birkenfeld Lobby and regularly participates in the First Friday Art Walk from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Gallery hours are 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Tuesday – Friday plus one hour prior to each performance. Admission is free, and information is available online at www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org, by phone at 206.842.8569 or in person at BPA, 200 Madison Avenue North, Bainbridge Island.
