Josh Anderson, Resident Musical Director
Josh Anderson is thrilled to serve as Resident Musical Director for Bainbridge Performing Arts. A tireless advocate for “America’s great indigenous art form,” Anderson has been involved in countless productions as an actor, performer, musician, educator, and director, and he is wildly enthusiastic about the ability of musical theatre to both draw a community together and entertain.
As a music director and stage director, Anderson has worked for numerous companies in the Puget Sound region – Olympia Family Theater, Theater Artists Olympia, Prodigal Sun Productions, Capital Playhouse, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Second Story Repertory, Seattle Musical Theater, and of course, BPA, to name a few. A seasoned musical theater performer, Anderson earned several awards for his work (Best Actor, Arts Scene MVP, Director - Volcano Weekly 2010, 2011). He has often appeared onstage in character roles (Herod, Melvin P. Thorpe, Elvis), but spends much of his stage time now performing with and arranging music for veteran Vaudevillian Saul Tannenbaum. In addition, Anderson is a composer, arranger, and playwright and has created numerous new works, including most recently a new adaptation of the Prose Edda from the Old Norse and, with his creative partner, an album of original cabaret music. He also serves as the Executive Director of the Seattle-based production company Oh, Hello! Productions, and works as a vocal coach, music teacher, and consultant.
Anderson is also passionate about educating the current and next generation of theater artists and has worked as an educator for the past decade both for theater companies (BPA, TMP, OFT, Broadway Bound, SMT) as well as in the public schools (North Thurston SD, Highline SD, Boston Harbor SD) and at the college level (The Evergreen State College). Dedicated to developing and serving the theater community, Anderson has also held positions on non-profit boards (Theater Artist Olympia: Board President, Patrons of South Sound Arts: Board Member) and has volunteered his time for countless fundraisers, auditions, cabarets, and support events. As a music director, he channels this passion for community, education, and musical theater in exhilarating ways that inspire and delight both audiences and artists, and encourage a dedication to artistic integrity and positive artistic growth.
