This class will welcome both beginning and experienced dancers. The focus will be on the fundamentals of dance, rooting it in both narrative and musical theatre, exploring the joy of dance but also the purpose. Why do characters dance? What is the emotion they are feeling that brings them to begin, and is there a change when they are finished? Who is around them? Who is moving with them?
Classes will begin with a warm up, and students will learn simple steps and build them into routines. Movement clothing should be worn, and jazz shoes or soft sneakers are required, though students will be dancing with shoes on and off.
Pickup and dropoff will occur in the BPA lobby. Parents are expected to personally sign their child in on the first day and must be visible from the front door or have signed a release for the over-12 child to walk or bike home in order for their child to sign themself out thereafter.
This is a short-run class. It is preceded by Liz Ellis’ Introduction to Playwriting, which runs at the same time September 12 - October 17.
