Over the moon about civic activism, Karyn has produced and performed in fundraising concerts promoting human rights, social justice, body positivity, and the search for a cure for cancer. Katie Sweeney
In honor of Henrietta, Annie, and Willamina, Katie would rather inform you about the current plight of the Equal Rights Amendment than go on about herself here. The Equal Rights Amendment was finally ratified in January 2020 when Virgina became the 28th State to do so. However- the Archivist of the US refused to publish it! The ERA has STILL NOT BEEN RECORDED INTO THE US CONSTITUTION!!! Women in the United States of America are STILL waiting for equal protection under federal law. This matters because the legal Titles currently supporting the rights of women at school and work (aren’t we people at home too?!) can be easily overturned without constitutional protection. Cases brought by women regarding equal pay, sexual harassment, rape, domestic violence, etc. will continue to be overturned at the supreme court level without constitutional foundation. Although the ERA should not technically require another act of the senate, (other amendments are published immediately after ratification), this is where we are- again. Please contact your senators to ask for their immediate attention to the passage of SJ-1!
