DIRECTOR’S NOTES

Welcome to Bainbridge Performing Arts and our production of Beauty and the Beast. Based on the French fairy tale La Belle et la Bête written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve in 1740, this story and musical have delighted audiences for years. While the original French tale did not have singing teapots and dancing candlesticks, it did tell the heartfelt story of two unlikely characters, Belle and the Beast, starting as rivals but finding true love with each other. Disney magically transformed this French story into a modern musical tale full of colorful characters, memorable songs, and touching moments. While I love all these musical and magical elements, it is the central themes of trust, love, and acceptance that are at the heart of this story.

I want to give a heartfelt thank you to BPA for entrusting me to bring this iconic musical to life as we open the new Buxton Center this season. Bravo to all the brilliant artists, from our talented cast and musicians to our dedicated crew and artistic and design teams, for going on this incredible journey with me. We hope you enjoy our telling of this "tale as old as time" and leave the theater singing the songs with a smile on your face and joy in your heart.
