Please join us for a hilarious family variety show brought to you by Project HAND UP one afternoon only at BPA. Comedian Darren Collins is a Native Washingtonian, born and raised in Port Angles, who has toured 45 states and 20 countries with his act. Kids and teens, adults and seniors will all enjoy his personable stand-up comedy act with juggling and magic!

Darren Collins and his co-founder, a Bainbridge Island native, formed Project HAND UP to help East Africans live healthy lives by providing culturally-appropriate HIV/AIDS education and gender equality education through live puppet and magic shows. A puppet has a special “permission” to say things that might otherwise be controversial or embarrassing to an audience. Puppets allow Project HAND UP to teach about this "taboo" topic in a way that complements the culture by using storytelling and visuals in a warm and joyful way that really works!

In 2001 Darren began performing as a full time motivational comedian, performing magic and juggling and stand up at churches, schools, comedy clubs and corporate events, specializing in “Edu-tainment” shows.  He continued to teach workshops and seminars on the subject of “using the variety arts to teach children”.  He authored several short run creative arts manuals, a book on juggling, and produced a “how to juggle” DVD.  Darren currently lives in Dallas, Texas where he performs weekly at the Improv Comedy Club for their family matinee shows.

The program is suitable for ages five and older.
