This summer production camp offers students the opportunity to rehearse and perform a full production complete with music, choreography, and technical support provided by a staff of theatre professionals and experienced instructors. The camp focuses on the hit show SEUSSICAL JR., where Dr. Seuss's best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable musical caper! This production includes numerous solos and fun dances for all levels of experience.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in SEUSSICAL JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from TONY winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once On This Island and Ragtime). Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many "thinks." Horton’s challenge is twofold – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

A day at camp will consist of morning theatre classes followed by camp activities and a full rehearsal in the afternoon. If students are not in rehearsal, they will be working behind the scenes on costumes, scenery, and props for the production. This program is geared for students interested in the performing arts and is open to all levels of experience. Students entering Grades 6-10 are encouraged to register for our INTERMEDIATE INTENSIVE, an additional week of intermediate acting classes and prep for leadership roles (onstage and off) they will carry throughout the SEUSSICAL JR. Production Camp. See full description for INTERMEDIATE INTENSIVE for additional dates and times.

Class size is limited to 35 students (NOT including students from Intermediate Intensive).
