Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra kicks off its season with a program showcasing English greats. William Walton wrote Crown Imperial: Coronation March for the crowning of Edward VIII in May 1937. When Edward VIII abdicated, the work was instead performed for his younger brother, George VI. The BSO opens the season with resplendent orchestration, grandeur, and pomp. Vaughan Williams wrote his Piano Concerto in C for pianist Harriet Cohen. This virtuosic concerto pays homage to Bach while also expressing a percussive and exuberant energy. The program concludes with Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations in which each variation is inspired by and dedicated to Elgar’s friends or loved ones.
