Exclusion Commemoration March 30 at the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Memorial

Exclusion Commemoration
Monday, March 30 @ 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Special Appearance by Congressman Derek Kilmer @ 11:00 a.m.
at the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Memorial

As part of the community “conversation” surrounding BPA’s March presentation of SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS, residents are invited to gather at the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Memorial on March 30 to commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the 1st day of the Japanese American exclusion experience.

Inspired by the unique legacy of a community that welcomed their Japanese American friends and neighbors home after World War II, visitors are encouraged to assemble for a commemorative event at the memorial, where they may walk in the footsteps of those who were exiled, share in reflection, and, if so inspired, offer service in the form or maintenance or improvements to the National Historic Site. This year’s event includes both a special presentation by Congressman Derek Kilmer and the revealing of a new sculpture specially designed for the memorial at 11:00 a.m.

This free community commemoration will be held Monday, March 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Memorial at Pritchard Park, 4192 Eagle Harbor Drive NE. Additional information is available through Bainbridge Island Japanese American Community (BIJAC) website at www.bijac.org.
