BPA Announces 2016 – 2017 60th Anniversary Season
Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) Announces
2016 – 2017 60th Anniversary Season
BPA has an extraordinary 2016 – 2017 60th Anniversary Season lineup, with PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, A CHRISTMAS STORY, THE MUSICAL, [title of show], AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY, BIG FISH, The Bard at Bloedel 2017: THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra’s four-concert classical series, First Saturdays with The EDGE Improv, BPA Theatre School classes and performances, and a whole lot more.
Casts of BPA favorites and newcomers will grace the BPA Mainstage all year, with PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE on October 7 – 23, 2016. What if Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso had met in a Paris bar one night in 1904? Steve Martin’s absurdist comedy pits genius against genius with dizzying brilliance. Next up is A CHRISTMAS STORY, THE MUSICAL on December 2 – 18, 2016. This laugh-out-loud holiday tale of American Christmases past has been cleverly re-wrapped as a new musical. “You’ll shoot your eye out!” Join us February 10 – 19, 2017 for [title of show] – a thoroughly unique and comical postmodern homage to the grand tradition of backstage musicals. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is a highly combustible dark comedy about the Weston clan of Oklahoma that will leave you reeling and runs March 17 – April 2, 2017. The Mainstage Season concludes on May 12 – 28, 2017 with BIG FISH – a rollicking fantasy set in the American South, overflowing with heart, humor, and tall tales!
Join us July 7 – 23, 2017 for The Bard at Bloedel: BPA’s 5th Annual Summertime Shakespeare offering – THE TAMING OF THE SHREW – at The Bloedel Reserve. The meadow at this award-winning public garden on Bainbridge Island offers an unforgettable setting for an evening of William Shakespeare and one of his earliest comedies.
Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra and Maestro Wesley Schulz return for our four-concert classical series featuring a star-studded cast of guest performers, masterworks, beloved favorites, original compositions, and special collaborations. Bainbridge Symphony Orchestra kicks off its season with “The British are Coming!” – a program showcasing English greats on Novermber 12 & 13, 2016. The BSO teams up with the University of Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra for “Mahler’s Symphony No. 1” in a special set of off-site performances on March 4 & 5, 2017. The BSO and the Bainbridge Chorale join forces for another off-site set of concerts and extraordinary partnership with “Sacred and Profane: Carmina burana” on April 22 & 23, 2017. BSO’s “Season Finale” on June 2 & 4, 2017 turns to celebrated American composers including Leonard Bernstein, John Williams, and Aaron Copland. This program also showcases the 2017 winner of the BSO’s annual Young Artist Concerto Competition.
The EDGE Improv’s riotous antics have inspired rave reviews, and BPA is thrilled with the troupe’s return to perform at BPA on first Saturdays all year long: September 3, October 1, November 5, December 3, January 7, February 4, March 4, April 1, May 6, June 3, July 1, and August 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Bainbridge Performing Arts celebrates 60 years of storytelling and launches its 2016 - 2017 60th Anniversary Season with a full weekend of special events August 5 – 7, including a welcoming reception, beer garden, and Art Walk on Friday evening, a panel discussion “Celebrating 60 Years” and an anniversary-themed EDGE Improv performance on Saturday evening, and an “Alumni” BBQ on Sunday afternoon.
