ABOUT THE APRIL CONCERTS

What an impact one composer can have on the musical world, and not even know it. Ten years elapsed between Rachmaninoff’s First and Second Piano Concertos. Rachmaninoff was so filled with self-doubt about his abilities that when he finally wrote his Second Concerto he dedicated it to Dr. Nikolau Dahl, an internist to whom he gave credit to for helping him battle his internal demons. Today the concerto stands as a jewel in the piano repertory. Medalist in the Seoul International Piano Competition, Christopher Guzman will perform. Beginning the program are Beethoven’s stirring overture to Egmont and Haydn’s charming Symphony in G major.
